How to reduce the email notifications you receive for transactions in your POS

Updated over a week ago

Overview

Shopify sends notifications for all new orders, including in-store orders added by Mortar. You can reduce the number of email notifications you receive for in-store orders by either filtering your email or adjusting your Shopify notification settings.

Option 1 - Use email filtering

Refer to your email provider for instructions on creating a filter that looks for emails with the words “Someone placed order POS— to move or delete unwanted notifications.

Note: Replace "POS-" with your order prefix if you've customized the order prefix.

Example: Creating an email filter in Gmail

While the following Instructions are for Gmail customers, these concepts can be applied to almost any email provider.

Step-by-step

  1. Select the Gmail filter button

  2. Use From shopifyemail.com and Has the words to search for "Someone placed order POS-" ( including the quotation marks)

  3. Click Create filter

  4. Select the following checkboxes

    1. Skip the Inbox (Archive it)

    2. Mark as read

  5. Select Apply the label, then New label

  6. Enter the label name: POS Transaction, then click Create

  7. To clean up existing notifications in your inbox, check Apply this filter to matching conversations

  8. Click Create filter

Option 2 - Adjust Shopify notification settings

You can either disable notifications for a recipient or, for more nuanced control, use "add recipient" to specify the notifications you want to receive.

Example: To only receive notifications for native Shopify orders, set the recipient to "Receive notifications" for Online orders.

Step-by-step

In Shopify, navigate to Settings > Notifications
https://admin.shopify.com/store/YOUR-STORE-NAME/settings/notifications/staff

  1. Click on Staff notifications

  2. Select "Add recipient"

    1. Select an email address

    2. Select "Online orders"

    3. Press "Add recipient"

For notifications from multiple sources, repeat the steps above to add the recipient for each additional source.

Note: If a recipient has ALL notifications, you can:

Select the ellipse to turn ALL notifications on or off for a recipient

  1. To deactivate a recipient's notifications, select Turn off

  2. To reactivate the notification, select Turn on

Choose Remove to permanently stop notifications for the recipient
