Using tags to manage Shopify products

Action tags are used to manage Shopify products directly from your POS.

Updated over a month ago

Overview

Mortar uses action tags to manage Shopify products directly from your POS. You do not need to log into another interface or platform. Grow and Scale plans have even more control through feature tags. Feature tags control product merchandising in Shopify. If you need more control, upgrade your plan to Grow or Scale Plan.

Action tags

Action tags control product creation, deletion, and status on Shopify. These tags have no impact when removed, only when added.

Note: For products with variants, remember to tag matrix/grid products in your POS. See the additional links below for detailed instructions.

Note: Applying both action tags, "add" and "delete", at the same time to the same product will prevent a product from adding to Shopify. Applying the "delete" tag to a product that already has the add tag will delete the product from Shopify.

"Add" tag applied to a POS product

Example: Lightspeed Retail (X-Series) product with the "add" tag.

Using tags

When you apply an action tag to a product, Mortar will apply that action. If you no longer want the action or feature to happen, remove the tag from the product in your POS.

Workflow example: If you manually delete a product on Shopify, remove the “add” tag from your POS. If the "add" tag is still present, the product will be added again to Shopify the next time it is sold or updated. Rather than manually deleting a product from Shopify, you could also remove the “add” tag and add the “delete” tag in your POS.
